Diane Kyd, Canada

Approach Diane if you want to learn close up how to build social capital in an integrated community using a Transform and Empower approach.

Diane uses Transform and Empower awareness and tools as community builder, leader, facilitator and practitioner. She has spearheaded the transition for many people with complex needs from a disability-focused culture to a more person-directed approach to urban community living. Diane has a unique perspective on how to facilitate a seamless flow of supports for receivers of services that nourish the 'difference that makes the difference' towards a more autonomous, self directed life together with others. She has co-pioneered a welcoming diversity approach with each person, to belong and expand social ties and common interests with neighbours, friends, artists, businesses, entrepeneurs and local citizens

Diane has taught the art of individualised social practice and hospitality for many years. She offers encouragement and practical tools to practitioners and clients alike, who hit all the barriers and think: 'we are never going to be able to do this'. She is currently mentoring founders of a new urban community in New York City who are inspired by her approach.

'Through the Transform and Empower approach we are inviting the people we offer service to, to show us the direction for our community' - Diane Kyd
